MakeFest 2018 – calls for makers (scientists, engineers, artists and more)

MakeFest is back! This year, our family festival of making, building, coding, crafting and tinkering has new dates and an exciting programme to celebrate the Year of Engineering 2018. But it’s still all about hands-on, do-it-yourself making at a festival that will take over the Museum of Science and Industry on Saturday 26 – Sunday 27 May and give our visitors a chance to try something new.

We need all kinds of people to make MakeFest happen. Techie, maker, engineer, hacker, hobbyist, crafter, artist, tinker, tailor or even a candlestick maker – we want to hear from you.

If you’re available to take part on both Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May,  go to our website and fill out a short application form to be part of MakeFest 2018.

Applications can be submitted by individuals or groups. For more information on the event and timescales, click here to go to our website where you can download the Festival Pack.

You can apply to:

  • Have a maker station to show your work and get people making
  • Run a workshop
  • Give demonstrations
  • Have another idea? Let us know on your application

Applications can be submitted from individuals or groups. Your creation doesn’t even need to be finished – works in progress are always welcome. All applications must be submitted by 23.59 on Friday 26 May 2017.

MakeFest at Museum of Science and Industry – call for science maker activities

MakeFest is a makers fair that is held annually at the Museum of Science and Industry, this year on the 20th and 21st August, and aims to explore a wide range of making and maker techniques, and to engage audiences with makers and making in a hands-on, creative and inspiring environment.

We’re looking for makers to engage the public with workshops, hands-on making activities or to integrate a hands-on experience into their contribution. The museum has a wide ranging visitor base but is mainly composed of families so people experiencing MakeFest can range from an 8 year old, 30 year old or 80 year old. So far programmed activities range from soldering workshops, pattern crafting with mine craft, creating theme tunes, mono-printing on fabric, the Manchester Robot Orchestra and more!

We’re looking for makers in the field of science to bring interesting, hands-on, interactive and visual activities to MakeFest.

Science based maker activities currently include

  • Examining the effect of force with catapults
  • Grown your own crystals
  • Make your own torch workshops
  • Making and racing electric model cars

If you have an idea or activity that you’d like to bring to the Museum of Science and Industry’s visitors contact Jamie and Rosie at makefest@msimanchester.org.uk
