School students give researchers the Cowell treatment
Seven University researchers are taking part in ‘I’m a Scientist, Get me out of Here!’ – a free online event where school students get to meet and interact with scientists.
The X Factor-style competition – which sees the scientists battle it out before a panel of school student judges – starts today (Monday 17 June).
Students challenge the scientists over intense, fast-paced, online live chats. Then they ask the scientists all the questions they want to, and vote for their favourite scientist to win a prize of £500 to communicate their work with the public.
Dr David Briggs, of the Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS), will compete in the Crystallography Zone; Rob Woolfson, of NOWNano DTC, in the Extreme Speed Zone; Heather Eyre, also FLS, in the Hormones Zone; Chris Whittle, of the Institute of Human Development, Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences (FMHS), in the Reproduction Zone; Dr Samaneh Maysami, of FLS, in the Indium Zone; Hannah Brotherton, of FMHS (Audiology), in the Tin Zone; and Charlotte Dalton, of the School of Chemistry, in the Antimony Zone.
