The University College for Interdisciplinary Learning presents a lecture by the President on her latest research.

A stroke of bad luck: understanding and treating brain disease
Stroke is caused by the blockage or bursting of an artery in the brain and is one of the world’s biggest killers. Our research has found that inflammation – which is common in many diseases such as rheumatism and bowel disease – is switched on in the brain after a stroke and an inflammatory molecule causes much of the damage. We are now undertaking clinical trials to block the damaging protein.
