Could you can reduce your 80,000 word thesis to 180 seconds and win £500?

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland. The exercise challenges YOU to present a compelling oration on your thesis topic and its significance in just three minutes with just 1 static PowerPoint slide.

Eligibility: Open to all active second and final year PhD candidates (including candidates whose thesis is under submission) by the date of their first 3MT presentation in the heats. You must be able to attend at least one of the scheduled heats and, if successful, the university final (see dates below).

  • 16 & 19 May 2017 – University of Manchester Heats
  • 7 June 2017 – University of Manchester Final
  • 11 September 2017 – Vitae national final

Why Take Part? 3MT develops your academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of your capacity to effectively explain your research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. Successful applicants will have access to exclusive presentation training and finalists will receive bespoke coaching. The UoM winner will be entered into the online national semi-final with a chance of reaching the live grand-final.

Once submitted your application will be acknowledged by email within 3 working days. Applications will be accepted until 5pm on Friday April 21 or until all places have been allocated.
