Masterclass: Communication Skills in Public and Patient Involvement

This half-day workshop has been designed for researchers who would like to improve their communication skills for the purposes of involving the public in research.
Attendees should have a basic understanding of what patient and public involvement either having attended the Introduction to Patient and Public Involvement workshop (FMHSS6018) and/or prior experience of involving the public in research as collaborators not participants.
By the end of this workshop you will have explored:
- How to negotiate with public contributors when making decisions
- How to manage expectations
- How to manage difficult situations and disagreements
- How to get the best out of PPI/E activities and events through better collaborative working with different stakeholders.
- Transferable skills in leading and facilitating meetings and events that will be valuable to all areas of academic life.
Facilitators: The workshop is delivered by Claire Planner, Dr Sarah Knowles and Dr Rebecca Morris along with members of the public members of the PRIMER PPI group.
