Topic: One Step Beyond: Crossing the Barriers to Engagement

Outreach grant applications often ask if you plan to work with “hard-to-reach audiences” so we’ll explore what this means and how you can take your work into a range of community settings.
Sarah will share the challenges and rewards of working with diverse audiences. We’ll look at some case studies of her work – including a CBeebies Big Day Out Festival, Bake Off, visits to schools for pupils with special needs, faith group visits, pop-up busking in a shopping street, and more to help you consider new audiences to engage with your own work.
Be sure to bring along your queries, questions, musings and concerns and we will do our best to help. There will also be plenty of time for networking over a cup of coffee/tea.

About Sarah Bearchell
Sarah was presented with the 2014 Josh Award for her work with children with Special Educational Needs. In the summer of 2015 she was delighted when BBC Learning invited her to contribute science activities to the CBeebies Big Day Out, where more than 40,000 people attended the event. Sarah works with a wide range of ages and abilities and loves the challenge and opportunities this presents.
