You may be interested to know about a new series of audio resources we have been involved with developing here at the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, which aim to promote children’s awareness of ethical issues in biology and medicine.

The Council has worked with Fun Kids, a children’s radio station, to produce a mini-series called ‘Bene and Mal’s Demanding Dilemmas’. The intended audience is broadly 6-12 year olds, and the series is made up of 10 short episodes, exploring the following bioethics topics:

  • Water fluoridation
  • Human Enhancement
  • Forensic Use of DNA
  • Medical trials
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Healthy Eating
  • GM Crops – 2 parts
  • Biofuels – 2 parts

The episodes are available to listen to and download for free at:
www.funkidslive.com/podcast-channels/bene-and-mals-demanding-dilemmas/ and on iTunes at: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/bene-mals-demanding-dilemmas/id779556912?mt=2

We would welcome any feedback and would also be interested to hear from anyone with experience of similar projects, particularly about evaluation, as this has been a different type of outreach activity for us.

If you have any comments or would like more information about this project or about our work to support bioethics education, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly – rsberg@nuffieldbioethics.org
