Calling all researchers – Bright Club Manchester is looking for researchers to become comedians for the night as part of the Manchester Histories Festival.

Bright Club is the thinking person’s variety club – blending comedy, research and music into a very enjoyable night out. You may have seen a recent article about us in UniLife (p16, Dec issue).

If you have ever wanted to talk to the public about your research in a whole new way and to share your passion for your subject in a light-hearted manner – then Bright Club Manchester wants you!

We are currently looking for researchers to perform at our ‘Histories’ themed Bright Club on Thursday 27 March 2014. To link with the festival we are very excited about involving historians and researchers from a humanities background. However, we welcome researchers from any background who can creatively link their research to the theme of ‘Histories’. For example, is the history of your subject influencing your current research or does your research relate to memories, the passing of time or the lack of it (e.g. black holes)?

Researchers would take part in a workshop on Thursday 13 March (6.30pm-8.30pm) with fellow performers to work on their material, throw around some ideas and pick up some comedy tricks. Then the event would be held on Thursday 27 March at the Nexus Art Café in the Northern Quarter (doors open at 7.30pm).

If you are interested or want some more information please email emily.robinson@manchester.ac.uk or let me know of anyone who you think may want to join in the fun!
